Yet again... proving there's a first time for everything...

Well... the results are in... and they did it folks. This week the judges utilized their phenominal power and saved their first (and only) contestant from the unruly grasp of the American Idol voting public. Seriously.

Matt was recipient of the lowest number of votes this week. And despite Simon's opinions, the judges decided to save him from elimination. So... that's great and all, but what does that mean for you and your pool? You thought someone was going home this week? Think again.

Well, as I outlined a few weeks ago, this may not be all bad. Next week, two people are going home, and to make it fair, the two eliminations next week will be ordered to help your score the most. Granted, I have no idea yet how that is going to work, but I'll figure something out (I hope). This season has already been full of enough twists that I shouldn't be surprised. I look forward to next year when the American Idol producers decide that not only do contestants have to sing well, but to avoid elimination, they'll be required to eat 17 bowls of jello while traversing through a swamp teeming with angry crocodiles (I hear it builds character). Then we'll have a show. And I'll see if JR will run the matrix.

Anyway... no score update for this week... next week could be interesting! See you then!

There's a first time for everything...

Greetings!

Welcome to the first official blog update for the Idol Madness 2009 season! Here's how it goes... below you will find a preview of this week's standings, which reflect the latest elimination vote. There will also be a link for the full score PDF, where you can view the detailed standings for yourself and all of the other contestants (you know, to see who you should befriend in hopes that they'll buy you lunch after they win their cash). So with that...

This week we said farewell to Scott... Interestingly enough, a lot of you had him going home this week, so scores have jumped around a little bit from the last update. But here's something worth noting... Newcomer Tiffany Lawrie, who was in the lead last week, maintains the lead by getting yet another elimination correct! That is three in a row. I don't know for sure, but I don't think that has ever happened in the history of Idol Madness. So kudos to you, Tiffany! If you keep it up, you will be untouchable to the end!

There are a lot of people close behind, too. In fact, there have been a good number of correct eliminations across the board this year. Some seasons hardly anyone gets the eliminations correct, but this year is shaping up to be a different story. Those correct eliminations definitely get you closer to winning it all, so don't get discouraged if you're currently behind. A couple good weeks can put you back on top.

So enough chit chat... here are the current standings:

As you can see, there are a number of you in the hunt for first... this will prove to be an interesting season!

If you want the full breakdown, the matrix can be found here.

Well, that's all for now... see you all next week!

This is Idol Madness 2009!

Welcome!

If you've found yourself here, then you probably already got the entry email... and you've already filled it out and sent it in, right? Don't delay! Entries are due by 12:00 PM on March 17, 2009!

Below is some additional information that wasn't in the entry email... Please let me know if you have any questions. Good luck, and most of all, have fun!

Scoring and Fine Print:
Each week you will earn one point for every idol in your bracket that remains on the show, in addition to a bonus point for every week you correctly guess the eliminated contestant. Picking the correct “American Idol” will earn you an extra 5 points. The player with the most points at the end of the season wins! A special provision has been made in the rules as well based on the new "saved by the judges" rule. To recap:
"The big American Idol twist promised by Ryan Seacrest turned out to be the introduction of a one-time-only save the judges can invoke if they feel a contestant has been voted out before his or her time... If the judges ever choose to save someone, two will get the boot a week later. And once they've saved someone, the privilege is available to no one else." So if this occurs, on the week that 2 contestants are voted off, they will eliminated in the matrix in the order which will help your score the most. This seems like the only fair way to handle the situation. Hopefully it will never happen, but we need those provisions up front.
